Music Ministry

The music ministry of the Church of the Good Shepherd seeks to lead people to experience God within worship and to live into the parish’s mission. Our music ministry:

  • Nurtures Souls through diverse musical offerings that inspire a deeper connection to God and speak to people from all walks of life both inside and outside the parish;
  • Does Justice by exploring the music of under-represented composers, choosing selections that uplift acts of justice and our faith, and seeking diverse and underrepresented guest performers for our concert series;
  • Serves Others (both musicians and congregants/audience members) by providing opportunities for local musicians to participate in worship or to use our space outside of worship to present free, quality concerts and recitals to our Fountain City community; and
  • Cares for Creation by making music for the spiritual, social, and emotional wellbeing of our parish and local community.
The Good Shepherd Choir
The Good Shepherd Choir, a beloved staple of our parish, lives into the tradition of Anglican music while also embracing the beauty and diversity of modern sacred music. The choir, made up of students (high school and college), volunteers, and professionals, provides music for our 11:00 AM Holy Eucharist as well as for several special services and events throughout the year. The choir rehearses on Sunday mornings from 9:40-10:50 in the chapel/choir room from September until Trinity Sunday (end of May). People of all musical levels are welcome to join at any time by simply showing up to rehearsals.
The Good Shepherd String Band
The Good Shepherds are a member-led volunteer string band that provides music within worship on occasion as well as at several musical events throughout the year. This group beautifully compliments the Anglican/traditional music provided by the organ and choir.

Allen Organ

Our Allen, GX-340 Quantum-Series, organ energizes and uplifts congregants, recital-goers, musicians, and other listeners in our Sanctuary. Whether leading a full congregation in a strident hymn, accompanying any size choir, or playing hushed melodies for mellow moments, this instrument impresses all who play it and hear it with its dynamic and musical qualities.

Good Shepherd Arts Series

Good Shepherd Concert Series serves to uplift local musicians and provide free musical experiences to our community. Check back soon or join our mailing list to see a schedule of upcoming performances.

The Good Shepherd Concert Series is possible thanks to the support of the Friends of Good Shepherd Music sponsors. To inquire about how you or your business can become a Friend of Good Shepherd Music, contact our Organist/Choirmaster Matthew Fisher at music.goodshepherdknox@gmail.com.
